National Institutes of Health Announces CFS Research Funding Opportunity Workshop - Sept 17, Rockville, MD

July 27, 2007

The National Institutes of Health’s Trans-NIH CFS Working Group will host a one-day workshop to help researchers learn about available Chronic Fatigue Syndrome “funding avenues” – citing a “new era of limited and falling budgets.” Registration forms must be received by Monday, September 10 and space is limited, so “early registrations will receive priority.” The NIH announcement, with contact information and a link to the registration form, follows.

Grantsmanship Workshop for Research on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Trans-NIH Working Group for Research on CFS

Overview
The Trans-NIH Working Group for Research on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) will conduct a one-day workshop on September 17, 2007 to provide researchers with an overview of the diverse funding opportunities available through the NIH, an understanding of the particular research or training needs they meet, and the opportunity to meet with and query program officers from the Offices, Institutes, and Centers represented on the Working Group.

In this new era of limited and falling budgets, the CFS Working Group plans to only reissue the standing CFS Program Announcement (PA) and sponsor meetings focused on matters relevant to CFS. Regardless of the budgetary climate, the CFS Working Group will continue to ensure that researchers who wish to study CFS are aware of the multiple funding avenues afforded by the NIH. Opportunities abound across the NIH for all levels of researchers, in addition to the standing CFS PA. In light of budgetary constraints, participants are asked to assume the financial responsibility for travel, lodging, and meals.

The workshop agenda will be sent to registrants during the last week of July.

We look forward to seeing you on September 17, 2007 for this exciting opportunity to discuss the grantsmanship process for CFS initiatives.
