The general situation of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and the criteria for its diagnosis are discussed, and it is put forward that making qi and blood of the zang-fu organs balanced is the key to acupuncture treatment of the disease.*

Such aspects as case selection, point selection and therapeutic assessment are also discussed in the present paper.

* [Note: As it relates to acupuncture, the concept of qi (pronounced “chee”) has been described as a sort of energy/vibration thought to move through the meridians of the body like vibration in a piano wire to carry the effect of acupuncture from an acupuncture point to other parts of the body. There are five zang organs and six fu organs. The zang organs - heart (including the pericardium), lung, spleen, liver, and kidney - mainly manufacture and store essence: qi, blood, and body fluid. The fu organs - the gall bladder, stomach, large intestine, small intestine, urinary bladder and sanjiao (three areas of the body cavity) mainly receive and digest food, absorb nutrient substances, and transmit and excrete wastes.]
