Importantly, the researchers were careful to note this doesn't prove sleep duration itself causes organs to age at different rates — it's equally possible that sleeping too little or too much is an early sign of something already shifting elsewhere in the body. Either way, the association held remarkably consistently, showing up not just in the brain but across the heart, lungs, metabolism, and other organ systems.
