How to Choose an NMN Supplement: A Buyer's Guide

How to Choose an NMN Supplement: A Buyer's Guide

If you've started looking at NMN supplements, you've probably noticed there's a huge range of prices, purity claims, and formats out there, and it's genuinely hard to tell from the label alone which ones are what they say they are.
That's not paranoia on your part. It's a real, documented problem in this product line, and it's worth understanding before you buy anything.

The counterfeit and mislabeled NMN problem

In October 2021, ChromaDex (the company that holds patents around NAD+ precursor research and runs independent testing) published results from testing 22 NMN products purchased on the open market. Based on our review, the findings were roughly this: about 64% of the products tested contained less than 1% of their labeled NMN content, and only around 14% (roughly 3 of the 22) actually met their label claim. Several of the tested products also appeared to share the same underlying distributor, suggesting the problem wasn't isolated to one bad manufacturer.

Whatever the precise numbers turn out to be, the takeaway holds: ProHealth's NMN products are verified for purity and quality so you know whats on the label is what your getting.

What tells you a product is legitimate

A few concrete things to check before buying, in roughly the order we'd check them:

A real certificate of analysis (COA).
This is a third-party lab report confirming the product contains what the label says, at the amount the label says. If a brand can't produce one, that's a red flag on its own.

Third-party testing, not just in-house testing.
In-house QC is fine as a baseline, but independent verification from a lab with no financial stake in the result carries more weight.

GMP certification and FDA facility registration.
This means the manufacturing facility is registered with the FDA, which is a meaningfully higher standard  than an unregistered facility.

A traceable, named NMN source.
Some brands can tell you exactly whose NMN ingredient they use (and that ingredient supplier has its own safety and purity documentation); others are vague about sourcing entirely. Our Uthever NMN, which is the world’s first clinically studied NMN brand, demonstrates both efficacy and a strong safety profile in human trials.

Realistic claims.
Be skeptical of any brand claims promising to reverse aging or cure a condition or promising dramatic, guaranteed results.

NMN comes in different forms too

Capsule, powder, sublingual, and liposomal are the main formats you'll see, and they're not identical in terms of absorption and convenience. We've covered that comparison in detail separately rather than repeating it here: see our guide to which form of NMN is best for the full breakdown.

Where we fit in

Our NMN products use Uthever® NMN, which is the only NMN ingredient behind a published, peer-reviewed, double-blind, placebo-controlled human clinical trial. In the October 2021 ChromaDex testing round referenced above, our NMN Pro product was one of the few NMN products that met its label claim (301 mg measured against a 300 mg claim). ProHealth Longevity products are manufactured in an FDA-registered, cGMP-certified US facility with batch testing. We publish the COA testing for every product on our website.

Frequently asked questions

Is all NMN the same quality?

No. Independent testing has found significant variation in whether products actually contain what their labels claim. Checking for a COA, third-party testing, and GMP/FDA facility registration is the best way to evaluate a specific product.

Does a higher price mean higher quality?

Not necessarily. The documentation (COA, third-party testing) is a much better signal than price.

What's the difference between NMN purity and label accuracy?

Purity refers to the quality of the raw NMN ingredient itself. Label accuracy refers to whether the finished, packaged product actually contains the amount of that ingredient the label claims.

Which form of NMN should I buy?
