Vitamin C

Vitamin C may be best known for its role in supporting a healthy immune system. Your immune system is a complex network of cells and organs that function together to help fight off viral and bacterial invaders. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that plays a significant role in stimulating and strengthening many of those functions. However, because your body does not produce vitamin C on its own, you have to get it from foods or supplements.

Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 helps modulate your body's innate and adaptive immune responses, your first and second lines of defense. First, your innate immune response detects all foreign invaders such as viruses, bacteria, parasites and toxins, activating cells to attack and destroy the intruders. Then it triggers your adaptive immune response, which recognizes the specific invader then multiplies to fight it off and provide protection against its return. Another important feature of vitamin D3 is that it also has been found to help regulate immune cells to prevent them from becoming overactive and attacking healthy tissue.

Zinc

Zinc is an important trace mineral that is necessary for a healthy immune system. One key way zinc supports the immune system is by activating enzymes that break down the proteins in viruses and bacteria, making them less able to spread. Additionally, zinc triggers the activation of white blood cells that are responsible for fighting infection; in fact, your white blood cells cannot function properly at all without zinc. Other aspects of your immune system that are affected by zinc include natural killer cells, cytokine production, neutrophils, phagocytosis and antibody production.
