A dimethylated derivative of resveratrol extracted from blueberries, Pterostilbene is more bioavailable than regular resveratrol and may also be a more potent antioxidant. Pterostilbene and resveratrol are very similar with one important difference. Resveratrol has three hydroxyl groups, while pterostilbene only has one. The more hydroxyl groups a molecule has, the faster it is eliminated from the body. Thanks to its single hydroxyl group, pterostilbene is able to cross cell membranes more easily and stay in the body longer.
