VIDEO: The Mystery of Chronic Pain


Most people think of pain as a symptom of an injury or illness. However, sometimes the nervous system develops feedback loops that causes pain to become a horrible disease in itself.

Starting with the story of a girl whose sprained wrist turned into a nightmare, Dr. Elliot Krane, pediatric anesthesiologist at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, talks about the complex mystery of chronic pain, and reviews the facts we’re just learning about how it works and how to treat it.
