Feature Articles

* Aches Define Life for Fibromyalgia Sufferers

According to FM patient Julie Marble-White, “Experts agree that the most important factor in successfully treating fibromyalgia is the patient’s willingness to accept the diagnosis and take control of their own treatment process. Living with a disease that waxes and wanes daily lends itself to living on an emotional roller coaster.”

* Dietary Suggestions in Treatment of Chronic Illnesses [CFS, FM] & Multiple Chronic Infections

According to Garth Nicolson, Ph.D., “We have found that chronic illness patients undergoing therapy, including those with chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis, diabetes, coronary diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, autoimmune diseases, Gulf War illness, HIV/AIDS, among other chronic illnesses, usually have poor diets that hamper effective treatment. Furthermore, we have found that most of these patients have multiple chronic infections that contribute to their morbidity.”

* Could Antidepressants Help Those with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME?

On the subject of treating CFS/ME with antidepressants, Dr. James Le Fanu writes, “Dr. Ian James’s take on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome was straightforward: here was a disorder of brain function for which the best treatment must be some drug that could correct whatever was disordered. Prozac hadn’t worked, but that did not mean that some similar drug, such as sertraline, might not do the trick if one got the dosage right. It was all a matter of fine-tuning.”

RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT: Chlorella

A recent study suggests that the nutritious algae Chlorella pyrenoidosa might be helpful for the symptoms of fibromyalgia. In this double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, 37 people with fibromyalgia were given either placebo or chlorella supplements at a dose of 10g daily. At the end of three months, patients were switched to the opposite group, and then treated for an additional three months.

The results showed significant improvements in symptoms and quality of life when patients used chlorella as compared to placebo. To read more about this promising research and the benefits of chlorella, click on the link below.
