Summary of the AACFS Sixth International Conference on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and Related Illnesses
Dr. Charles Lapp writes, “The biannual scientific conference of the American Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (AACFS) was attended by over 190 physicians and professionals from more than 14 countries. This year’s format was new. The first day was an introductory course on the diagnosis and basic management of CFS taught by myself and Dr. Leonard Jason, which was attended by over 170 professionals, and was highly acclaimed by the attendees.” Read about key highlights from this CFS and FM event.
What Can Rehabilitation Interventions Achieve in Patients With Primary Fibromyalgia?
According to Haiko Sprott, M.D., “Symptoms of primary fibromyalgia (FM) persist for years, independent of applied therapy. That is the sad reality we have to deal with. But is that really true? The following review is a scan of literature from September 1, 2001 to August 31, 2002, concerning rehabilitation interventions for patients with FM, to find progress in this field and to ascertain state-of-the-art treatment strategies for the disease.”
Fibromyalgia Versus Parvovirus Infection
A 40 year-old woman presenting with fibromyalgia symptoms posed an interesting clinical problem to her doctor. Resistant to and worsened by the treatments prescribed to her, Stephen Paget, M.D., asked the question: did the patient ever have acute parvovirus infection?
RESEARCH SPOTLIGHT: Relora®
Relora®, a natural patent-pending plant extract of Magnolia and Philodendron proved highly effective in recent clinical studies, helping to alleviate stress induced obesity, anxiety and irritability, according to Next Pharmaceuticals Inc., the product’s manufacturer.
The research shows Relora® significantly alters the hormone levels associated with stress-induced obesity. These findings not only support earlier research demonstrating that Relora® provides significant relaxation and more restful sleep in stressed individuals, but that it also offers new hope for many people whose weight problems are often stress-related.
