According to Karlene Karst, RD, “Dietary intake of EFAs is linked to mental health. During this past century, there has been a marked increase in the lifetime risk for major depression and decreasing age of onset. Over the same time period, there have been marked changes in dietary intake of fatty acids. Research has shown that countries with the highest rates of depression have the lowest intakes of omega-3 fatty acids from fish.”
