Check with your physician in advance for managing flare-ups. Analgesic medication can relieve or reduce pain. Anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen may help. Increasing sedative medications for several nights may reduce the severity of symptoms. Some physicians prescribe muscle relaxants such as Flexeril three times a day during flare-ups, but this regimen may be too sedating for daytime use. With a management plan in place, you’ll have the medications ready to cope with a flare-up. This will save time and aggravation when a flare-up occurs.
