ME/CFS Alert co-host Llewellyn King taped several interviews on “the Norwegian Treatment” (rituximab) at the recent CFSAC meeting in Washington. Following are two of these interviews, with US patient Robert Miller and Norwegian attendee Torsten Porwal. (And you’ll find all ME/CFS Alert episodes at www.youtube.com/user/MECFSAlert)
Robert recounts the story of a fellow patient who had lymphoma as well as ME/CFS and had taken the chemotherapy drug rituximab (Rituxan) for the lymphoma. He explains one theory expressed at the meeting – that by killing B cells (which in lymphoma “multiply abnormally”), Rituxan may rid the body of viruses that could hide in these cells. He also talks about cost factors associated with the drug.
